Questions you should ask SMS providers:
1. Does your company use UK originated messages?
At GloverSure, if a message is being sent to the UK then it is sent direct through the UK Networks and not via foreign networks. You may find cheaper providers for SMS, but they are highly likely to be using foreign networks, which are cheaper because they avoid termination charges from UK Networks. These foreign messages are less reliable and so less likely to be received by the recipients. Many SMS providers do not make you aware of where their messages are terminated so you may need to ask.
2. How long has your company been providing SMS services?
GloverSure Ltd has been offering SMS services since July 2004. It is so important to have a supplier who has been in the industry for a number of years as so many companies appear offering very cheap SMS messages (which you pre-pay for), but then the next thing you know they have disappeared! We would always recommend doing a credit check on any company that is going to be your supplier, especially if you are prepaying for services.
3. Are you reselling someone else's service or did you develop the technology yourselves?
All our services have been developed by our own developers, and all members of our sales team are from a software development background; so they can answer any technical questions you may have . As we have developed the systems ourselves we have more knowledge of the services we offer and can also tailor any service to your exact needs.
4. Can people reply to messages?
With most services you need a way to allow people to reply. If a company is not offering a service that allows your customers to reply then they are almost certainly resellers of SMS technology.
5. Can you provide delivery receipts?
If a service provider cannot offer delivery receipts they are almost certainly offering messages that are going through foreign networks. We provide delivery messages on all our services so that you know for sure if a message has been delivered or not.
6. Do you offer telephone support?
It is so important that your SMS service provider offers telephone support; there is nothing worse than when you are struggling to understand something and having to write emails back and to trying to get an explanation which ends up taking ages.
